Default 98 C5 A4 Mod questions

What's going on all. I'm a first time vette owner and I've been bitten by the bug. I've had my baby for about 2 months now and the acceleration and speed just doesn't get old. I'm in the military and have been told that I'm going to Saudi Arabia for a few months. After everything is said and done, I'll have about 4-5k to spend. I'd like to keep it N/A, but anything is possible. From what I've seen on the posts A&A Corvettes, Norris, and Speed Demon Motorsports seem to have a good deal for a good heads and cam package. I'd ultimately like to have about 450 rwhp/trq or so. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If I'm barking up the wrong tree please trow me a bone.

If you follow the proven formula, you will do the these mods:
1.) Intake 200$
2.)Torque converter and gears 2000$ installed(depends on whether or not you buy,new and/or install yourself)
3) Heads and cam-from 2-4000$ installed
4) headers-1-2000$ installed

You will probably have trouble getting 450rwhp and torque dependably and naturally aspirated on an A4, and if you do you willl need to replace or rebuild the tranny. Look at some of the numbers people here are getting, and you will get an idea of what to expect with heads cam on a driveable A4. Good luck

From what I've read H/C pkgs are good to about 400HP, if you want 450 RWHP you'll probalbly need a supercharger. (or NOS) :yesnod:

rrobert22, has some good ideas, not 450 HP but much quicker than what you have now. 3.42 gear/TC and headers about 5K ! :yesnod:

Sarge, Welcome to the forum :flag

Agree with rrobert22... although with an A4 I'd think 450rw is pushing it a bit. Underdrive pulley and a Blackwing may also help a bit on top of what was suggested. Anywhere between 390 and 420, depending on who's heads/cam package you select is more like it. With an SC installed I'm thinkin it will be a bit over your budget...

I'm just trying to be optimistic :) . I could afford more, but I don't know if I'm willing. Just tring to feed the need.

From the various shops I talk to, get the car breathing real good first. So work on air intake and exhaust. After that, do heads/cam, then when your sure your done, get the proper torque converter/gears and probably a new tranny :)

My opinion is to do it in the following order:
1) Cold air intake (nice and cheap)
2) Exhaust from Headers on back (2-3000$ installed)
3) Z06 Intake Manifold, air bridge, ported throttle body (about 1-1.5k installed)
4) Then heads/cam (I'd allocate 4000 for this)
5) Gears/TC - 2000-3000
6) After this you'll need a new tranny, Im not sure on cost of that since thats so far away in my timetable,

Have fun!

save some more money and get a supercharger with exhaust from the headers back and a dyno ls-1 edit tune. got 452 rwhp 433 rwtq on my 99 A4 with stock tranny. Breathless says not to replace tranny unless it breaks and most will last.

I agree with ursloow, go with the blower right off the bat. If it had been available before I started out on my trek, I would have gone right there. Even after doing all the bolt-ons and heads/cam etc. you will still want more - may as well go right to the blower and get it over and done with. You will spend more money and time trying to build up to it N/A. You can always go back and do a gear or converter change later on top of the blower if you want.

Good luck & enjoy the car!
