Guys
have a 99 - 3rd gear in automatic transmission went out - anyone ever try to pull it out to rebuild ? anyone know of a good trans shop in Dallas area ... if they do it should I expect to pay about $2000?
figure someone has done it on their own - looking for thoughts if its a DIY job?
Thanks
If you don't have any automatic transmission experience the rebuild could be rather difficult to do. This place has kits for DIY's. Take a look at what they have.
I do have a 99 4L60 I would like to get rid of. Bought it to build and do an auto swap in my car, but changed my mind. It was from a wrecked car and worked fine until then.
Thanks
have rebuilt a few in years past - but not in a C5 - mainly wondering about the degree of difficulty to get it out...
Being in Dallas would most likely make shipping from your location cost prohibitive - Thanks
You might check out RPM transmissions, they have a good list of DFW shops you could call. Its listed on the forum side bar for vendors under transmissions.
You would need to disconnect the torque tube at the bell housing and remove everything from there back. It's not that difficult of a job. Do a search for Dope's C5 Clutch install. Sure there will be some differences, but you'll be able to see the big picture. RPM is jam up group of guys, and you know it will be right.
I will second a RPM transmission, Just had one installed and it was the best money I ever spent. They have the ship to local shop and pick up to return the core to them down pat,
it was the smoothest process I ever had to deal with.
