Default best timing chain/oil pump combo

Hey all I recently bought a 2000 corvette with full bolt ons and a big cam. It still has stock oil pump and timing belt. I was wondering what I'd the best combo for the car. It is a ls1 with and ls6 intake manifold. Also if anyone has any suggestions to what other parts/pulleys should be upgraded while doing the chain. Thank for any input

Nothing wrong with the OEM oil pump as long as it doesnt have a bunch of miles on it. You may consider shimming the spring in the oil pump if your oil pressure if lower than desired.

How do you know the timing chain is stock? If the chain is stock or the original, look into the C5R (now C7R I believe) chain it is a nicer, stronger upgrade when doing cams.

If you're feeling like spending money, you can consider an underdrive pulley, trunion kit for the rockers, hardened pushrods if those are stock, dual valve springs.

You can also look into having the crank pulley pinned so it has no chance of slipping or coming off.

Those things should have been taken care of when the previous owner installed the cam.....

If you have a newish 10 or 25% UDP, no need to pin it to the crank unless you are thinking FI down the road. If its an old stocker then perhaps. Yeah a new GM LS6 or whatever the pump is now is plenty good for 600 hp. C5R chain was the one I had and the last one I know. Haven't kept up with the changing times and what parts from a C7 engine fit a GEN III motor. Good luck and enjoy your toy.

Thank you all for the info. I asked the previous owner and he said it still had the stock chain and pump. So I should look into the c7r chain?

I would question the entire cam swap if they didnt bother to do the basics like replacing the chain when they did the cam. These are the parts that went in when I did the cam on my 03.

Patriot Gold dual valve springs
Cam
TF hardened pushrods
LS7 lifters
SLP UD Pulley (pinned)
C5R chain
Crane Hex-adjust timing set
Katech timing chain damper
Shimmed stock oil pump

I later added the RR trunion kit for the peace of mind.

I know the car has hardened rods new valve springs and gaskets and retainers. What is the significance of the chain damper and trunion kit?

Are you going to be tearing around on a road course regularly or hanging out at the dragstrip? If the answer is "No", and it will see mostly street use, save yourself some money, buy an LS2 timing chain and a factory LS6 oil pump.

Mostly overkill peace of mind.

My block was drilled/tapped from the factory for a timing chain damper so I went ahead and added the chain damper. The damper stabilizes the chain when you decelerate from high RPMs helping to keep the chain from breaking.

The trunion kit replaces the needle bearings in the RRs with sealed bearings.

Gotcha thank you for the info. I'm still going to look around and see if there's some type of package deal somewhere
