Default Help! What's this connector?

I just bought a '04 C5 and just finished installing the steering position sensor, and while hooking up all the electrical connectors, i found i had 1 extra???
And i'll be the first to admit that i'm an idiot for not taking pics.

under the dash, right under the steering wheel there are 5 electrical connectors, 1 large main plug and 4 smaller plugs in a row,
i can't seem to find what plugs into the one circled in red.

i did find a connector that fit into half of the socket, but I have read in another post that it's part of the air sensor next to the key, (but i can't find a plug there)

so does anyone know what that connector is for?
i'd like to get this figured out so i can make sure the new sensor is working.

Thanks for your help.

The air sensor is circle in red in below pic. This is for cars with the dual zone HVAC. You need to pull the grill with a small screw driver to see the air sensor.

I'm really not sure, but the connector in your first picture really looks like the one we use to connect the column lock bypass module. You may investigate in that area.

Thank you! I researched the column lock more and that's what the connector is for,
i also found that it stated "2001 and later model automatic cars do not have a column lock at all" and that makes more sense why i can't find it, there isn't one.
I'll probably find the air sensor connection during re-assembly.

I've been worried I'd hook it all up and nothing would work without this connected.

The BCM operates the column lock motor and there is NO WAY to prevent that since it is hard wired into the BCM logic. What is different on the automatic 2001 - 2004 C5's is that the lock plate is a small diameter that prevents the lock pin from ever intercepting the lock plate. Hence the column does not PHYSICALLY lock but the BCM goes through the motions of operating the lock pin.

Automatics seldom experience the column lock symptoms but it is STILL possible to get the "pull key...." column lock message even on automatic 2001 - 2004 C5's. One but not the only cause of that message is if the wiper wells backup into the passenger side and get the Column Lock Relay wet causing it to fail. Plugged wiper well udders can cause the wells to back up into the car.

Can't tell for sure but there appear to be only 2 wires coming out of the back of the female connector in the first picture. If there are ONLY 2 wires then it is NOT the connector for the column lock system. If there are 4 wires, colored white, purple, light green and black then it is likely the connector that goes back to the column lock relay and BCM. If the colors match then you need to find the male connector from the lock motor that should be plugged into that female connector . If you do NOT plug in the lock motor you WILL get column lock messages but the car is still driveable. Just have the annoying messages.
there are 4 wires on it, and they are orange, purple, green and black, and it sure looks like whats in the pics of the column lock connector.

where would the column lock motor be located? so i could trace back the wiring.
I wonder if i pushed it out of the way, and now can't find it, and I've looked for about an hour, starting to think I'm losing it, (even more then normal)

while replacing the steering sensor, i removed the access panel in the wheel well and found those weepers, and they were full of debris so I emptied them, gonna do the pass side later.

The wires from the lock motor usually run down the left side of the column and terminate in a male connector as seen in the pictures.
Thank you, i'll look tomorrow, it probably got stuck up in there when moving it out of the way.

That's the VATS connector, the other side is two very small white wires in an orange tube.

From what I see in the first pic there's only two terminals in that plug.

so i took apart the lower plastic of the steering wheel and still didn't find the connector.
I decided i've wasted enough time looking for it that I put it together without it connected, and i haven't seen any error messages yet.
I'm pretty sure that is the connection for the steering lock, but have no idea if came from factory like that,
or if it was a recall repair, or if a previous owner removed it, I'll never know.

Thanks guys for your help,

Oh and I found the air sensor connection, it was still attached to the knee bolster.

You probably have an LMC5 column lock bypass in the passenger foot well. You could look up a picture of one and search in the passenger foot well if you're still curious.

Maybe a previous owner also cut-off the original column lock harness or even went to the trouble to remove the motor from the column.
