I think you will be fine with it, I have a 15lb flywheel and I have no issues slowing down or taking off... it will buck a little bit when driving really slow in a parking lot, basically in situations when you have your foot off the gas and letting the car pull itself... I do have a cam also, if you don't have a cam I don't think you would have this issue... another thing to take into account is the overall clutch weight with the flywheel... my whole assembly is only about 10lbs less than the factory setup... if you have a 10lb lighter flywheel but 10lbs heavier on the pressure plate/disc then it will end up being just like the stock unit and you shouldn't have any issues
personally I would go with a lightened (but not too light) steel flywheel, aluminum is more prone to warping... the reason you don't want to go too light is because it may dip below idle when coming to a stop and make the car want to die, may take a little more gas to get it going smoothly taking off at a light, or buck and surge while driving slowly like in a parking lot or traffic (even worse if you have a cam)
Neutron, I jut reread this post this morning and it seems to describe what's going on in my car. I took her out yesterday afternoon for some spirited driving(close to my 500 mile break in; I take people literally)and I decided to play. I noticed a little stumbling when taking off but no faltering once I'm going. Shifting at 3k(second and third gear;more aggressive than I usually drive)was flawless.
My son has a SPEC stage 1 clutch in his Z06, light mods - Honker cold air, shorties, B&B PRT's, ported MAF and a tune. It has been in around 5000 miles and at this point, the car is undrivable. We do not know if it is defective clutch/hydraulics or defective install. The clutch took near 4X the effort an is essentially an on/off switch. Very uncomfortable to drive in any kind of traffic. Again, the car is at a different shop awaiting rack time to determine who/what is screwed up. But it is all coming out and an LSx GM unit will be going back in. Will know more of the cause next week.
