I don't use any oil additives in my C5, nothing but Mobil 1 5w30. Now on older cars & my truck I do use Lucas.

Complete waste of money. Use quality oil/filters in the correct viscosity for the correct application(M1 5w-30 is not for the road course) and have a good time.

Are you just trying to spend money, or is there a problem that needs correcting?

Few mechanical problems are solved by pouring oil over it, no matter what the label might imply. I always look for the money back guarantee. It would be hard to lose a fraud case in court when there is a standing offer of a full refund. Products sold like a phony male sex aid pill are always suspect.

It used to be , in the old days , with a played out engine it was common to use STP or some kind of motor honey, to thicken the oil so less blew past the seals. As these engines went away, so did some of the products, some remained ,, some new ones came along. This kind of product used to be considered a make do until repair. Now the motors are tighter and the common oils in use today used to be available only to supersonic aircraft. I suppose it is possible to find an area that could be improved by some magic elixir , but I think these products are just a holdover from when these products were useful, and they sell because it has inertia, people accept these products because they used to worth while, their dad or someone in the past used it ,etc.

I track my car and it is also a daily driver. I have only used a premium oil filter and the appropriate synthetic motor oil only. Save your money. No issues of oil consumption or any unusual engine wear. I have done a few oil analysis tests and found nothing unusual other than the oil could stayed in the engine longer.
Enjoy,
Ray

These "additives" are totally unnecessary with today's modern engines and oils. Waste of money. As others have said, stick with quality synthetic lube and quality filters.

The only additive I've used is a ZDDP additive such as the 4oz Howards cams break in additive. I'm sure it's not needed but it's a habit from our circle track motors. A little extra zinc, phosphorus and moly isn't a bad thing in a motor that's run hard at higher temps.

I am impressed that someone actually came up with a useful additive , with the reason it is used, a reality based, cut above most oil discussion, answer. Congratulations.

Good info, I have a new motor coming for my '99... thinkin' I'll probably skip the snake oil..

still curious tho. They sell a ton of this stuff..flyin' planes with no oil..etc, etc...

I know Lucas is a respected product..I see a thread where some guys are using it.

We use the 16oz, Lucas cam break in additive in our wet sump asphalt modified motor. It was suggested from the engine builder since it runs heavy springs on mechanical flat tappets. Also because it's a 7.5 quart pan and it makes up the other half. It's mainly a ZDDP additive but not as concentrated as the 4oz Howards 8 use in the vette. I would not use any of the "stabilizer" stuff or snake oil cap in these motors.
