Need help in diagnosing noise
Upon starting and idling,a scraping sound, not a squeel from a pulley or tensioner is heard. The belt turns freely and all seems to be OK. Tried the A/C on defrost and all seems well and no change in the scraping. Need your thoughts and experience. It is so damn cold in the garage so until it warms up a little i'm going nuts as to what could be happening. 99 6mm, all stock 156,000 miles. Well maintained since new .
Any thoughts and/or related information would be most appreciated.

Remove the belt and start it.See if the noise is still there.If it is,take a good look at the crank pulley to see if it has separated.Could be rubbing the oil pan or the steering rack.Just a suggestion and a simple test.
