Hello everyone! Lately I've been noticing a very loud clunk whenever I would take off after fully stopping or applying the brakes pretty hard. Because of this and because of a warped rotor I recently purchased and installed brakemotives drilled/slotted rotors and pads. For about a week the clunking went away, but now it's back! What's causing this?
Noise from the front or rear of the car? Do you hear it when first moving forward or reverse from a stop? If yes, check the sway-bar end links. Remove the nuts at the bottom of the links and push the links out of the control arms, then drive the car. If the noise goes away, you've found the source.
My son had a 2004 Impala that had a solid clunk in it from the front right wheel. It bugged me for a long time. We finally started to dig for it and discovered that the lower control arm bushings were shot. There was just enough slop for the 'clunk' noise to happen as he started and stopped the vehicle. What bugged me more was that he couldn't hear it as much from inside the cabin, so he didn't think anything of it.
