Diff Setup
I'm getting ready to try my hand at installing some 3.90 gears and have already picked up the K-M tool sets, new gears, and a low mile diff recently upgraded with c6z clutches/shafts. I understand it's not a simple procedure to set these diffs up right, but I'm pretty mechanically inclined and really like doing as much of my own work as I can.
My plan is to follow Its_Go_Time's gear swap how to thread to put this thing together. Unfortunately, the Motive gears I have didn't come with an A2 value engraved in them, so I can't use the GM side shim selection method. Post 4 in the above link gives a quick explanation of choosing LH shims based on backlash after getting the pinion set, but I'm not real clear on exactly how the backlash is measured.
I'm hoping some of you who've done this before can chime in and explain how you measured backlash and let me in on any other tips or tricks you may have. Thanks for the help.
