Since the C5 uses synthetic oil, I was planning on changing it every 5K miles. I know I may get blasted by some of yall for going over 3K miles between changes, but is it really that bad? I mean, I laughed when I saw that GM said 15K miles. So, I figure a safety factor of 3 was adequate.
But with the first oil change, should I change it before whatever interval I will generally plan to stay with since the Vette will be getting broke in? By this I am meaning that if I plan to stay with 5K miles, should I change it after 3K or 2.5K the first time, then go to 5K after that? :confused:
5K is a good interval to chang, actually its the filter that gives out before the oil. Good article at: http://www.idavette.net/hib/C5diy/c5diy1.htm don't forget to check bottom of this page for info about different oils! :yesnod:
George;
Congrats on the the C5! And you're getting on my birthday! We should get our 03 AE in November at NCM, it's getting harder and harder to wait!!
For my .02 I would change the break in oil at 3K, in case there is any junk in
the crank case you'll be getting it out and replacing the start up oil with fresh clean oil. I intend to do about the same thing. I read a thread were the author changed his filter and added a quart of Mobil 1 every 3000 and did a complete change every 6K.
Good luck with the new baby, post pix.
Bill :) :)
