I just installed my Vararam, pain in the neck. Anyway, the filter looks very light to me. I'm wondering if it is too light to be very effective, especially since I'm in a dusty climate. Also, directions didn't say to oil it initially; is it already oiled?
My filter was dry foam, and it was not oiled. I squirted a thin film of K&N filter oil on it, and then installed it. I have ran the foam filter for a bit, and I'm wanting to try the K&N for a comparison. Does anyone know the K&N filter part number that Vararam uses?
Contact Patrick @ Vararam (sales@vararam.com). I asked him, and he insisted that the foam filter is better than the K&N. I ordered a K&N regardless. It is 69.00. He said that a thicker 'street' filter is on its way (due out in 30 days), and it will give up 10% airflow over the race filter,.
Even though I've not seen the 'street' filter, if it is thicker, then it might help. I'm going to try the K&N regardless. I'll be able to tell by scanning w/ EASE whether it gives up any airflow over the race filter.
I installed a Vararam in a friends car. I agree it was a ROYAL PITA!
The filter also concerns me. Looks very thin and light. While Patrick claims it filters well, I am unsure. I am much happier to give up a few HP with my Blackwing to have pure air coming into my motor.
