Default Harmonic vibration ?

I have a harmonic vibration that starts around 95 mph and gets worse the faster I go. (I never speed or break the law)
It seems to be in two to three second intervals.

Things I've done lately are as follows: (prior to noticing the vibration)
1. New Bear Eradispeed rotors.
2. New right inner C/V boot.
3. Pulled intermediate pipe to replace broken flange stud.

The one thing that I'm unsure of is when I had the wheels off of the car is if I mixed them up or not. (right to left)
It doesn't feel like a tire or wheel problem though.

Any help would be appreciated.

Same here, noticed it in all three of my c5's with various setups, just learned to live with it. Sorry, no help here :(

I have the same thing, but my tires have 37,000 miles on them, still on the factory alignment and balance . once I get new rubber I will be pissed if its still there. If you let go of the steering wheel do you still feel the vibs?

The vibration is everywhere, tires are the first thing I'm going to check but I have my doubts that will help at all.

If it's more sound than vibration then I'd bet on a wheel bearing. If its more vibraton than sound, then I'd bet on a wheel out of balance/ bent/mounted wrong.

My vote is tires. Specifically the brand, model, and tread. One wheel bearing is not likely to go in and out of phase like that. Two or more bad wheel brgs is less likely. Does the vibration differ with different road surfaces?

I had a wheel bearing go bad and it did exactly that. In/out phase. It is very difficult to tell if they are bad as well.

Did you torque the lugs to spec? Mine had a vibration after getting a rear tire patched(and I saw it balanced out to zero) and after I removed the lugs and retorqued them my vibration went away....

Fixed !

Note to self: read torque specs twice..

It seems when I replaced the right inner c/v boot I over torqued the axle nut a bit, I had it at 185 ft. lbs. and it should have been 118 ft. lbs.
I went over everything I had done to the car lately and rechecked it all and found this.
I guess that over tightening the bearing makes for some high speed vibration because its gone now that I've redone it.
I checked the bearing and it seems fine and no worse for wear after my stress testing it.

I also had one front wheel that had thrown a .5 oz. wieght.

It probably is a wheel bearing. Had the same thing on my 98. Mine was louder in a left turn than in a right. A mech from the dealer told me that it was very comon on vettes. When I pulled the spindles the bad bearing was hard to detect. I changed both fronts and the vibration/noise stoped. The car had less than 20k miles on it when the vibration/noise started. It can get real frustrating trying to pinpoint the source of the vibration/noise.

Rear wheel balance. Had the same problem and after re-balancing the fronts several times I found the problem to be caused by one out of balance rear. Really annoying cyclic vibration. BTW, had the tires balanced on the car last time...seems to work much better than using the fancy computerized off-car balance machines.

hi....you didn't say if the vibration was always there, but i assume it was. i am concerned about your not knowing if tires had been switched left to right. you should keep a close watch on the tires, especially the front. tires are broken in where they are first mounted and can have tread and or wall separation if swapped. i don't mean to be an alarmist, but i think you should follow up on this. of course, if the vibration was identical before and after the tires off and remounted then you are probably in good shape. check this info out with goodyear...i assume run flats.

good luck....richard

Richard, the Z06 has F1 SuperCar tires and aren't directional, however I did make sure they all went on in the same place just to play it safe.

The tires have directional arrows embossed in the sidewalls. (At least the OEM tires and all of the high performance replacements that I've seen do). The arrow should alway point to the front of the vehicle.
