Not sure this is a viable option for you...We have a very high quality shop in my home town that has been in business for years and I have done LOTS of business with them through the years... They repair/rebuild alternators and starters... I have taken OEM collector parts and hard to find replacements and they have always done a great job. I have had excellent success with the rebuilt OEM equipment.
This is not like some assembly line reman-business, they take each piece individually and give it great care and attention.

What ever you do, do not turn in your OEM alternator until you get a working replacement. The C5 alternators have a circuit that communicates with the PCM to control the duty cycle to properly control charging. If it is not there it will throw a Charging Fault message.
You are correct your OEM one is 110 amp. I have the OEM part number at home. Nothing wrong with getting a reman one from Rock Auto or NAPA, etc. Just keep your core until you are satisfied it works. Might want to just keep it in case you need to rebuild it in the future.
No. For autos in 2001 and 2002 they were different for automatics as they added a decoupler. After 2002 the part numbers changed since they went to 145 amp units.
Not at home with my parts info but I don't think the autos in 2000 had decouplers. I can confirm later.
The interface circuit you guys are talking about is it the same as the exciter on a fbody computer? It basically sends a signal to the alternator for charging from what I under stand. If I remember correctly its like a 5v signal or something like that. Im also looking for an alternator for my 1998 corvette. I don't have a core because I bought the car with out a motor or accessories. From what I have read people have used the later model alternators from the c6 corvettes and they worked.
The PCM replaces the idiot light circuit and it monitors that the alternator switches the light terminal to battery voltage once the engine is started (same as how the light goes out).
The alternator has a PWM signal output that feeds back to the PCM. This signal represents the duty cycle of the circuit powering the field winding in the alternator. It is not the output current.
That is the extent of the interface. The PCM has no actual control over the alternator in a C5. The PCM doesn't turn it on or off or control the charge rate in any manner.
You can find replacement Valeo alternators on Ebay.
There is a site that sells replacement parts to rebuild your own alternator but I don't have the link handy at the moment.
