I started the '97 vette on Sunday. I again heard the high pitch whine inside the car. It did this on Thursday as well. I have no real experience with the C5s, so this is kind of new ground for me. It runs greats, no hesitations, charges fine while driving. Just seems okay. When you stop at a light, put the window down, left off brake and touch it again, all these things seem to change the pitch of the whining sound.
Does anybody have an idea of what could cause this?

Yep. Fuel pump. My 97 does it too...as most 97's do if they still have the original pump. Not a reliability issue at all, just an annoyance. Most noticeable right behind driver seat. I put some dynamat in my car and that helps.
I believe GM issued a TSB way back in the day to address customer complaints...basically, the fix is a new, updated pump which went into production early in the '98 MY.
If I ever have to drop the tank for any reason, I will update mine, but not worth the effort just for the noise factor IMO.

My Vette is a 2003, so I assume it has the 'new' fuel pump? Which whines!
