driver side chrome mirror
My mirror stays dark.
It rings on a volt meter at the mirror when disconnected.
Does this mean I have a short in the wire or a blown fuse?
I believe the heated portion works properly
During all of my searches I have not read about checking the liquid part for continuity.

If the mirror is permanently in dim mode (yellowish), then you need to replace the glass. Two ways to do it. Either replace just the glass with a piece that sticks over the existing (cheap but effective) or buy the entire unit and have back the dimming feature (more expensive but done right).

I have a DIY write up at home on how to replace just the mirror with out removing the assembly from the door. Will look to post here for you.
The light sensor is in the interior rear view mirror and the control circuit from there also feeds the Driver outside mirror. Could be a fuse issue powering the control circuit. I have that info at home also
If your mirror is discolored then it should be a bad mirror, very common.

It was very helpfull,thanks for the write up.
I had the whole motor assembly apart yesterday and cleaned out all the old grease and put in some new stuff.
My rear view is good. The side view has a big bubble at the top.
I would like to know which fuse powers it though.
I thought that since The mirror by itself rang out on my meter that it should work.
I was not sure how to check the volts coming from the wires.

I looked at the design for the first time. It does not work at all like I assumed.
Here is the Design and schematic.
With the ignition switch in the ON position, ignition 3 voltage is supplied through the HVAC fuse in the instrument panel electrical center to the inside rearview mirror. The inside rearview mirror uses 2 photocell sensors in order to determine light conditions in the front and the back of the vehicle. At night with the automatic day-night feature enabled, as the glare of the headlamps from behind increases, the mirror gradually becomes darker in order to absorb the glare. In the daytime, the mirror is in a normal state. With the gear selector lever in the REVERSE position, backup lamp supply voltage is supplied as an input to the inside rearview mirror. The inside rearview mirror will gradually change to a normal state as a result of the backup lamp supply voltage input. Ground for the inside rearview mirror is provided by G202.

I am in the process of cleaning my grounds and 202 is one that I have not gotten to. The last two are on the engine and I think I am not going to do those.
I may just take the trim ring apart and clean out the dimming jelly.
