I am looking into changing my cam but can't afford the heads. What cam can I get that will give me the most power? I don't mind the idle but I need something that will still pass emissions. Also I only want to change the cam, I don't want to have to buy other items. Thanks, Kaley
You don't want to do any valvatrain upgrades at all? I would have to recommend you do springs, retainers, and pushrods with a cam swap - even a small one. The G5 cam only cars are putting out some great #'s with stock heads, so you might want take a look at those. :yesnod:
Godspeed, Does anyone have a kit that has everything you need? How difficult is it to swap out a cam? I will be doing this myself w/ some help from my cousin. What is the cost of the G5 cam w/ the other stuff? Thanks, Kaley
I have a 2000 Hardtop. Right now it has Donaldson intake, magnacore plug wires, airbridge, Corsa exhaust(I think) and other stuff that doesn't matter. I am worried about passing emissions but I want as much power as possible. Thanks, Kaley
If you want to be safe for emissions and not have to tune the car, get a 220/220 114 cam (Thunder racing makes a great one)along with comp 918 springs and hardened pushrods. This should cost about $600 + labor and will net you about 30-40 rwhp.
I am interested in this myself, I already installed the Comp 918s with my SLP 1.8 rockers...I was going to do a mild cam and reinstall the stock rockers. I will need a cam that makes decent torque down low, and a HP curve that picks up as the torque starts to drop off so I was thinking about the GM hot cam with 218/227 112 LSA. I'm running stock TC and "dead" 2.73 gears. Any thoughts?
Hey keep us posted as to how much you pick up with the cam...I've been looking at the MTI B1 but now after reading and reading and reading about them, the G5 looks promising too.
Hey guys, not sure if you have noticed what is going on lately with the reverse split duration cams, but I have posted some info here you may want to consider: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=363693
Give LG a call and talk to Justin or Trevor about a cam only kit if you're interested in going with the G5.
NJVetteGuy, Get rid of the 2.73s and get 3.42s if you are going to swap cams you will need a good converter of at least 2800 stall to take advantage of the cam. The GM Hot Cam with a 112 LSA is not a good choice for an A4 because of it's rough idle. A cam like the Thunder 220/220 561/561 114 LSA would be a better choice than the GM Hot Cam.

Godspeed,
Have some #'s on the G5? I am more interested in an A4 setup with headers/hiflowcats/xpipe/exhaust/donaldson/z06 intake manifold.
But I am in the same boat, I will probably stick with stockheads for a bit.
Did you have headers/cold air with your 375rwhp? What was on your car with this test? Also, mn6 or a4?
My ONLY performance mods are a Vortex w/powerduct, LT Headers w/high flow cats, G5 cam, x-pipe, ported TB, TR55's, and flo pro mufflers. My car is a MN6, see sig. :p:
I chose the B1 after much research on LS1tech.com. I have to say I love it. I pulls like a ****! It is also a great nitrous cam. However in the neverending quest for power I am considering the reverse split cams that are making a name for themselves. Just curious how they do on nitrous. Good luck!
