I have a 99 FRC and I have replaced the TT a few years back with an 04 z tube. The dealer and everyone says that its the same part number and everything but I distinctly remember measuring the shaft and it was different. Now I'm not completely knowledgeable about all this so please bear with me. The shaft with the splines was shorter on the z TT than on the original FRC TT. Everyone I have spoken to says that can't be since they're the same part. Has anyone else ever heard of this because i know it was shorter.
Any information is appreciated
How much shorter are we talking here? If it's like 1/8" difference or so could of been your rubber couplers were shot giving u an odd measurement. I know the manual & auto TT's are different but are NOT interchangeable between cars...

Did this just hit you in your sleep or do you have a problem
The input shaft actually isn't the same because the early models were tapped for 3 x 10mm coupler bolts and the later models were tapped for 3 x 12mm coupler bolts. But, they are the same in every other way. You can even take a 10mm variant and tap it for the 12mm bolts and use it in a newer torque tube assembly.
I looked into this when I was researching my own difficulties. One difference not mentioned here is that the later torque tubes went to a stronger aluminum.
Just a small detail,I can see why it is often omitted, you can't do anything about it anyway, and it doesn't effect repairs.
I offer it for curiosity.
Yes I do have an issue. Its a constant grinding in the trans even after I replaced it. The only not model year part on that car is the TT. It cane off an 04z and I distinctly remember it being shorter. So since its a constant problem I was just assuming that the TT was different.
Its at a shop now in Houston getting looked at but I just wanted to know if anyone ever noticed a measurement difference
