Default Steering Wheel Removal?

Sorry, guys, but I did a search of both this forum and the Tech forum, and couldn't find what I'm looking for. Thus, a new thread.

I did the Horn Membrane fix just before I put her up for the winter, and (stupid Sh_t) I broke the plastic where the horn wire with the spring goes in.

I bought the replacement, which is called the directional cancelling cam.

Yesterday, I attempted, carefully, to pull the steering wheel.
I remembered seeing one of you had drilled holes and used your normal puller.

I tried that very carefully, and I've gotta say at this point, that I'm a retired mechanic, so it wasn't just a "Big F__kin Hammer" scenario.

Needless to say (and why I'm here right now) despite my most careful work, the threads 8mm 1.25 pitch, pulled out on one of the bolts.

Not wanting to DESTROY ****, I'm here for the question.

Anyone know a shop (not a stealership) in the Boston area that might have the 'specific' Corvette steering wheel puller?

Thanks in advance.

Here is something I found in a Thread. Not sure about the prices.

Here's what kind of puller and legs are called for in the instructions I have for steering wheel removal:

A Steering Wheel Puller (Kent-Moore tool # J1859-A, or KD Tools tool # 2291)

A set of Steering Wheel Puller Legs (Kent-Moore tool # J42120, or KD Tools # 3510)

These legs are the J-hook legs and have no threads. As well, the wheel has no threads either. As for a puller, I borrowed a standard puller from a mechanic at work and my J-hook legs worked fine with it.

I found the proper legs locally at NAPA. They had the KD Tools set, #3510.

I wouldn't worry about the legs breaking the steering wheel... If anything, its the legs that will break. Some people have had to use a 2nd pair of legs due to them breaking. Some wheels come off much easier than others... Mine came off pretty easy and I didn't have to let it sit overnight. I just set up the puller, applied a fair amount of force... yanked on the wheel a bit... applied a little more... tapped on it a little with a hammer and then slowly the wheel began to pull off.

The best tip I can give you is, be ABSOLUTELY sure your J-hooks are seated perfectly. If only a portion of the J is engaged in the notch on the steering wheel, it is more likely to snap. (Picture hanging from the edge of a skycraper while using only two fingers on each hand instead of all four). Don't apply too much force too fast; but if you're careful the legs should take quite a bit of force before they break.

Pulled up prices. Total cost about $30. Not sure if the j-hooks can be used with a typical SW puller but they probably do and the hooks are only about $16.

May Duntov Bless you Dadaroo.
I'll see if I can find them.

I just took 5/16 carriage bolts and ground down two sides to make it an oval and then used the grinder carefully to get them to just slide in the wheel and turned them 90*. Hooked them onto my puller and off the wheel came. Total cost for carriage bolts and nuts: $1.13 at Home Depot....
