Hello,
I have a 98 Corvette with a manual transmission that's completley stock. I recently spun a rod and it seized the engine. I was looking into getting my motor rebuilt but I wanted to know the correct size for the rods and pistons. I was looking into having the pistons and rods being forged. I've been looking at a couple different packages on texas-speed.com but i'm unsure on what size to get. I plan to later go full bolt on and cammed in the future. ANY input would help!! Thanks in advance.
Well first you need to get inside the motor and see what damage you have. How many miles on the motor? If it is high mile motor I would bore it .030 over and get new pistons. If it all checks out, stick with the stock pistons. If you spun a rod bearing you'll need some crank work done. what rpm were you turning when it let go? Did you lose oil pressure? It's rare for a LS1 to have bottom end problems. Call Texas Speed about the sizes, I wouldn't order anything without knowing exactly what is hurt and why.
My mechanic tore it apart and it appears that the rod broke due to the oil pump going. Since the motor is already torn apart i would like to change the pistons and rods to forged . I would like to know what would be the correct size rod and piston for my stock block.
