I'm installing TPIS LT headers, and a Vig 2800 with programming in 2 weeks at Speed Demon($500 cheaper install than C of H and MTI). Do I have to have a transmission cooler? How much is it to buy and install? Thanks
When upgrading torque convertors we recommend a tranny cooler. They are about $80-100 installed depending on labor quoted. You can get a decent one and do it yourself anywhere from $60-75 including hose and clamps.
Heat kills auto tranny's! This mod. is cheap insurance.
1. Go to Pep Boys or such.
2. Buy the Hayden or B&M cooler (8X10 inches size, $50 or so).
3. I installed mine on the shroud on the passenger side. I cut a hole under the cooler in the shroud.
4. Install takes and hour or so. Real easy.
My tranny temps. are 185F average max. on 100F plus days here in Dallas. Once it got to 199F on a 50 mile trip from Ft. Worth in stop and go traffic. Normal driving around town temps never go above 185F.
If you like, I have 4 pics of my install. I can e-mail them to you. Just msg me at my profile address with your e-mail address.
How about for the mn6 tranny? Does it help too. The tranny gets so hot it burns my legs on long trips. Will this help? I'm also starting to track the car quite a bit. Thanx guys :chevy
