If you are doing a C6 shifter upgrade and the boot that is at the base of the shifter to keep dirt and crap out of the shifter box is torn, split, or cracked like the one I bought from a fellow forum member this is what I did to fix it... I bought an 1.250 ten speed bicycle inner tube and cut a piece about 4" long. I took the shifter **** off and sprayed the shaft with WD-40 so I could slide the tube over the shift lever... first I stretched about half of the tube that was going on bottom as far as I could humanly stretch it over the end of a funnel and then heated it with a heat gun... rolled it inside out about in half and then forced it over the shift lever... when I got the bottom half where I had rolled it inside out to the bottom of the bevel on the shift lever I rolled the top half back down and stretched it over the lip on the piece on the top of the shifter box.... it has a groove around it that the OEM piece fit in and that's where the zip tie is....it's not easy... but, it can be done.
this is the boot that was busted...and was letting sand, dirt and crap inside the shifter box... no wonder they get sloppy!
Nice and clean, greased up, water and dirt proofed, ready to install!

First time I've come across it. Usually I see the occasional, larger, hole-closeout insulator boot that's held down by 4 nuts with some damage, presumably from removal/trimming/re-installing, etc.
