Default 02 z06 fuel pump replacement ,,, help!! please

so my fuel pump went out , my mechanic states that both pumps need to be replaced which is the electric fuel pump on left and the right which is the "syphon jet pump" . So this is where im confused do i really need to replace the right side pump? should i get the oem (ac/delco) is there any good ,durable and reliable aftermarket ones that are cheaper than oem? ie: i found some on the auction site like WALBRO/ LINGENFELTER LPE FUEL PUMP GRJ420P 255LPH CORVETTE C5 97-03 much cheaper than oem . My question is will it just plug and play with the right side? im so confused

Yes, there a several aftermarket fuel pump assemblies that are reliable and good quality.

If you want to go back with stock setup, disregard the Lingenfelter pump. It's a very good pump but it's designed for highly modified engines that need substantially more fuel flow, so unless you've modified you car quite a bit, I'd stay stock.

Choose from AC Delco, Delphi, Carter, or Airtex for the left (driver's) side, but for the right side, it's AC Delco only, and that is a MU1218.

BE ADVISED: if your actual electrical fuel pump (driver's side) has failed, then replace it of course BUT, if only the fuel sending unit is bad (here again, I'm talking about the driver's side) it can be replaced as a separate item. It's attached to the electrical pump, and can be removed to install a new sender (with new float arm as well). That's a Delco part number SK1318, seen here:

I'm not going to second guess your mechanic, and give him the benefit of the doubt as to the troubleshooting of your car. If you have been having faulty fuel level readings, running out of gas, etc, then replacing the right side unit and the fuel level SENDER in the left side may very well solve your problem. You would not be the first C5 owner with fuel system problems, USUALLY with the siphon pump/sender (it does both) on the right side, and the fuel level sender on the left side.

Thanks for your quick response, well never had a problem with the car not reading the gas level or anything.. the problem was as i started driving the rpm's went too low then it would rev up then down eventually the car would just turn off , there was no pressure coming from the fuel rails..

I'm assuming he's already done some diagnosing, including checking/replacing the fuel filter and done the power checks to see if the pump is getting full voltage and also pulling up any DTC codes.
There's also a fuel pump ground stud on the left rear frame rail that can cause low voltage (or NO voltage if it's broken/damaged). I'm just kind of spit-balling here and throwing out some ideas that I'm familiar with on the C5 fuel system.

Thought it was RARE for the syphon jet pump to go bad. I thought that orifice getting debris in it was the cause of most of the jet pumps problems. BUT like 8VETTE7 said, wont doubt the troubleshooting.
