Holly Molly!! I can't wait to get it tuned to squeeze a little more power out of it. I have no idea what kind of numbers I'm running at the rear wheels, but it is definitely waaaay stronger than before :yesnod: :yesnod:  Also, my Borla Stingers are really loud now  I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for the five o's with that sound. Even at partial throttle, it's very noticeable.
Oh, and last night I was out taking her for a test spin (pardon the pun  ) when my tires broke traction coming out of a rest area (at least the cop said they spun). If they did, it was very very lightly. I had no intention of breaking traction nor getting crazy, but let me tell you, it's very easy to do with this kind of power. I also took it easy and stayed under the limit while heading for the next exit. I think he and his buddy were following me to see if I was going to get crazy with it. Good thing I took it easy as I didn't see him back there. He let me off with a warning ticket as I explained to him the situation. I could tell in his demeanor that he wanted to write me a ticket, but it was a :bs call IMO since I barely got on it to begin with. I was coming out of a 90 deg curve heading up the on ramp when she broke loose supposedly. I think there may have been some sand or gravel there. My buddy Josh (PaceThis on the forum) was with me and also said it was a :bs call by the officer. The officer was doing his job and I can't blame him for checking me out. I can't imagine what this thing is going to drive like in the rain
I have a question for you guys that have taken the stock exhaust manifolds off and re-installed them. Which way do the gaskets (I guess they are called gaskets, though they look like a big ring that fits inside the pipes) go in? Both of mine fell out before I could see how they were in there and my service manuals don't have very good pics of how they go in. Does the wide (fat) end go facing the engine or the rear of the car?
Re: I did it!! Heads and cam installed (QwikSilvr)
QwikSilvr,
Congrats on the heads/cam!! :yesnod: Aside from the Borla Stinger, what other bolt ons do you have??(induction, headers??) Just curious! :seeya

Everything is pretty much stock outside of the heads, cam, Z06 intake manifold and borlas. I think with some additional bolt ons (headers, air intake, etc) I could squeeze another 25 - 30 hp.
Re: I did it!! Heads and cam installed (QwikSilvr)
How does she run without any tuning? I am going to have my MMS package installed and running for 2 weeks without tuning. I opted for a larger cam so I may run worse than you untuned. Curious though.
Re: I did it!! Heads and cam installed (Horsepower)
It runs rather well actually. And that's with an exhaust leak or 2 and my AC vaccum line at the back of the intake has fallen off I think as my AC vents aren't working properly again :mad.
Idle is fairly good, but it does surge a bit. I think that's because of the loose vaccum hose, as that was the symptom before when I had the same issue with stock heads and cam installed.

Yeah ..Don't you just love it!! ......and it get's better too!

Things just got worse  I was driving it today and started getting a misfire. I decided to pull the valve covers and check the pushrods. First one I pulled was bent and the outter spring was broken  :U I'm going to finish checking them all. GOD I hope I don't have a bent valve.
Any ideas why the pushrod may have bent? I can think of a couple of things. The valve may have hit the piston. I hope not!! Well, I'm gonna get back to checking things out. I'll let you guys know what I find.... Wish me luck
Well, there's only one bent pushrod and 1 broken valve spring. I checked for bent valves by pumping compressed air into the cylinders and all are fine. I think I'm going to pull the front engine cover and verify that the cam gear and crank markings line up. That will also give me a chance to see if the oil pump pickup o ring got damaged during the oil pump installation. Oil pressure is good at idle and at speed, so I don't think there's a problem there.
I've got a couple of valve springs ordered and am going to my local Customer Oriented Chevy Dealer  to pick up a pushrod. After talking it thru with someone, it may have been that when I initially started the car up after putting it all back together, a lifter may have been pumped up and slightly bent the pushrod or the rocker may not have been on straight causing the pushrod to bend. After I got it running and things felt right, I started driving it harder to get a feel for things. All I can say is that Andy's heads (A&A Corvette) are kick azz!  And that's with stock exhaust manifolds. Andy told me to get some headers and that would really bring her alive so that's my next project.
I'll get the spring changed and the pushrods and rockers back in tomorrow. I'll keep you guys updated as to how things go. I'm looking forward to feeling that power again  :yesnod:
