Default Stubborn Ball joint

On a C5 left rear lower ball joint.

Got the Kent Moore Ball joint removal tool J-42188-B fully torqued and the ball joint won't budge.

Would appreciate any suggestions on how to remove the lower control arm without damaging the ball joint.

Thanks

A big hammer to strike the control arm. The vibration can help loosen the ball joint from the spindle.

I use a 6lb sledge to wack the hell out of the knuckle where the ball joint comes through. Usually after 2-3 swings it pops loose.

I used PB blaster lub waited 15mins and put a torch on the spindle, both pop'd out in 30 seconds. Of course the ball joint tool pressure helped.

If it hadn't worked, the 6lb sledge was next

Thanks

I used a small hammer and a block of wood and smacked the hell out of it!

Thanks for the replies.

On to my next problem, I'll start a new thread but if you have advice, I would like to hear it.

Problem:
Replacing stock bushings with Pfadt Poly kit
Same left rear lower control arm, one piece bushing on the front side of the arm (Cam adjustment side), the right side of the bushing is about 1/8" to wide, won't fit into the cradle.
I don't want to cut the one piece bushing in half

Compressing it with a C-clamp it would make it fit, however it's tough to slide into the cradle with the clamp attached.

Some older threads on this subject suggest grinding down the cradle or shaving the bushing.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Have you contacted Pfadt? They made it.

I left the bushing clamped overnight and it retained enough compression to fit the first 1/4" into the cradle. I then gently hammered it into position.

1 corner down, 3 to go, hopefully it will be much quicker now that I got the process down.

I looked at Prothane and Energy Suspension, but they don't come with the sleeves and I didn't have time to remove the rubber from my existing sleeves.

Pfadt kit has sleeves and marine grease, well made bushings have longitudinal groves to hold grease and sleeves have latitudinal grooves that hold small amount of grease.
