Default Baer Eradispeed's with Hawk Performance Pads

I've been seriously considering purchasing the Baer Eradispeed 12.75" Front and 14" Rear Rotors with Hawk Performance STREET Brake Pads, however, after reading a few threads concerning abnormal wear, discoloration, and warping, I'm having second thoughts.....

Besides the lighter weight and  appearance, does this setup really provide a performance benefit in relation to the cost? I've heard that the stock brakes/rotors on the C5 are very good, and just wondering if I would be better served to spend my money on another mod.

My 'vette will rarely see the track. Mainly a pleasure ride with an occasional diet of "snake meat" and "rice".

Any advice/recommendations???

Hey Sven--
I have had the Eradispeeds for about 10K miles and really like them. Stopping power is no more than the stock rotors, but the surfaces are thicker and they do not warp as bad as stock when subjected to rough usage. I run the snot out of the car at track days and auto X. Appearance and street visability are great :D IMHO forget the Hawk pads. I had the street versions and have never had a noisier or worse dusting set of pads. Changed them for the GM ceramic after 5K miles. :mad

something to consider:
i would guesstimate there are AT LEAST 2000 members on this forum with Baer Eradispeeds installed on their car. do you ever hear the good things about the rotors? nope! maybe only once in a while. i would say at least 95 percent of owners are happy with the Baers, with no problems.

You will not realize big gains in stopping power with Eradispeeds, thats the simple truth. they look great and they have a lifetime warpage guarantee. thats about it.

dont bother with the hawk pads, unless you like lots of brake dust and brake squeel! on the road coarse? yes, go with hi performance pads. for the street? go with new gm stock pads (if you have more than 5k on your present pads) or the 2002 Z06 pads. they are supposed to be a bit better than previous gm pads. i do not believe they are ceramic. again, stock pads are perfect for everyday driving.

i am not trying to sell you anything in replying to your post. i feel the Baers are a good mod (mostly looks). they have always been a good seller for us...

just my .02

Nate

I might be able to help you with this... I was one of the first with the Baer 14 rears and I LOVE them..... They look AWESOME!!!!! Everywhere I go, I get nothing but complements on them. I also went with the Hawk Street Pads and have not noticed anymore dusting than with the stock setup. Also I have not had any Squealing. ( I had better knock on wood now!). Alot of members told me to either go with the stock pads or give up a little breaking power and go with ceramic pads. But I am VERY happy with my setup!!! And both Nate/Mike at Extreme where the ones who took care of me. I wound up changing everything from the rotors, pads, tires, rims, sway bars etc etc etc.... They are a GREAT vendor to deal with. I have included a link to some pic's of when I finished mine. Hope they help ya make a decision, If I had to do it over again, I would do it exactly the way I did!!!!!! :D

One of the many happy EradiSpeed owners checking in. I have the Bare EradiSpeed Enhanced rotor's with HAWK HP Street pads (plus Goodridge SS brake lines and ATE DOT 4 Super Racing Fluid). I love this set up. Mine don't make ANY noise and since I have chrome wheels and wash my car weekly I haven't noticed any more brake dust than usual. I only get rust on the fire path the rest of the rotor surface is bright and shiny. I did Zaino the hub area before installing so that may have helped.

I have auto-crossed with this set up and they never complained and they feel as smooth as GLASS. Unlike my OEM POS rotor's. As far as increased stopping power unless someone performs side by side track testing there is no way to say, but my SOTP meter tells me when I plant my foot on the brake pedal this puppy is coming to a stop without fuss or drama. I just need to monitor my mirrors as the guy behind me may not be able to stop as quickly.

I have the same set-up as AFVETTE (must be an Air Force thing!) that I bought from Nate and I couldn't be happier with them. I bought them mainly for looks but I haven't had any problem with the pads dusting. EVERY time I drive my Navy blue metallic 2000 coupe, someone says something about the brakes. They LOVE the cross drilled and slotted rotors with the ZO6 calipers. I especially like the looks I get when stopped at a light. Just wide eyes filled with admiration!!!

Have the Eradispeeds with the smaller back rotor--IMHO, the only reason to go with the bigger one is for looks. The front brakes do almost all of the work, especially in hard braking at the track. Just look at the difference in pad wear rates, front v. back. I think they're a good product. Also have the Hawk high performance pads...they do squeak and slough off a lot of dust, but they work very well. May try ceramic next time. AND, may even buy those cool looking bigger Eradispeed rear rotors. This mod thing is a real illness!

If this is just going to be used as a street car the Eradispeed's will work great. IMHO the 14" rear setup is one of the coolest visual mods you can do to the car.
If you are going to open track the car there are some other brake mods you need to do at the same time:
  • Order the Eradispeed NON-crossdrilled. The drill holes tend to crack under extreme heat.
  • Switch the car over to better brake fluid, I suggest the Wilwood "EXP 600" Its ~$25/bottle and works better than any other fluid I've tried.
  • Get a set of the DRM Stainlesssteel caliper pistons... I don't wanna get into the physics of it, but these help the brakes shed heat faster
  • DRM front cooling ducts do a huge amount to fight overheating of the brakes

As far as brake pads go, I really like the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads. These provide better stopping (and less fade) without a lot of dust, or chewing up rotors

Hey Sven,
The eradispeeds are great looking pieces. The 14" units look awesome and they do add a little more rear brake torque than the 12 inch rotors (that is a good thing). I got mine from Motor Sport Image in Sacramento. They steered me away from the Hawk pads due to complaints for sqeeling. Mark said that there was a cheap fix for the sqeeling but I went with the Performance Friction pads instead. He said that they are easier on the rotors than the Hawk pads. They also flushed the brake fluid with Ate Blue brake fluid and the setup has been flawless. Man the old brake fluid was gross, it had over 40k miles on it and was really dark and merky. The PF Carbon Metalic pads stop sooooo much better than stock pads that it is almost unbelievable.

I hope this helps. :D
