I have an '04 six speed coupe with under 17,000 miles on the clock. Only under hood mod is a Callaway Honker CAI and an Elite catch can. Do not plan on any future mods at this time. Car drives nice, great road car except for gearing. With the 3:42 rear end, I find fifth gear is used mostly with sixth only used on the interstate at speeds of at least 75MPH, better at 80MPH. at that, RPM's are barely at 1,500. Engine seems to like a higher RPM range. Mileage averages at 30-31 per gallon. 1,500 RPM's or lower seems to lug the engine. Do not ever plan on straight line tracking or serious racing, maybe just an occasional mild autocross and spirited backroad driving with a road trip now and again. Probably do not need a built up rear end, so am thinking just a gear swap unless a great deal comes along. I think 4:10 ratio would be too deep for what I am looking for.
The big question is, which ratio would be suggested by those that know more than me? Pro's and con's of each ratio? Spending the money once to do this will make the redhead at home happier.
Thanks again for all your help here. You guys and gals are great.

Reason: add a line
4.10s all the way. They were my first upgrade way back when.. when I swapped out the stock engine for the LS7 I dropped to 3.73s due to the increase power.
I went with 3.73's and was really happy. Now I'm running tires an inch taller and wish I had 3.90's. I also changed 5th and 6th gears in the trans which made 6th more useful.
I am running a big cube stroker.
