Give us a little more info....as in how high/exactly what temps are you getting at highway speed.

Look to see if you have any blockage of air flow to the radiator. Common since the air comes in so low it picks up a lot of "stuff". The fans do not operate at over 35 mph so that is not your issue.

If you need to clean the air flow path I have some links at home on doing that.

Are you sure it is really overheating and not a faulty temp sensor. If it is really overheating it should be doing it at low speeds also, not just at high speeds.

210 to 220 is not overheating....many C5's run those temps always.
You could have some "crud" in front of your A/C. Take a look, you can clean that out with a "dryer brush".(get the front end off the ground)
You could have a little air in the system....do a search on bleeding air out of the cooling system.

I have a couple of other ideas if the above fail.

Get back to us.

Those are totally normal operating temps for a C5. Nothing to be concerned with at all.

In that case, it sounds like something IS wrong. Even though you just replaced your radiator, I would check from under the car to make sure the radiator is totally clear of debris. If you remove the top shroud, you can get full access to hose out the radiator using a radiator cleaning wand that attaches to the garden hose. You can find them easily on the Amazon, etc. Second, I would confirm that BOTH fans are coming in at their proper set points. Also, as mentioned before. You may need to "burp" the air out of the system. Use the search function here to get the proper procedure for this. Good luck!

Hmmmm.....it could be a leaking head gasket. I experienced that same scenario on another type of car/engine, turned out that hot exhaust gas was overheating the coolant at higher rpms. Check for bubbling in the coolant, watch the fluid while idling, then rev the engine to higher sustained rpms and see if you get pressure/bubbling in the coolant. Good luck

You guys think is the sensor in the gauges when it reads 250 i open the hood and no steam no bubbles the car dosent look like it over heats. It only when the ac is on and at high spoeds in nornal street it wont pass 220

Jezz, the fans don't even come on until 226 by design.

Factory temp settings are low speed on at 226 degrees and off at 219 degrees. High speed on at 235 degrees and revert to low speed at 226 degrees. Both fans run at low speed and high speed and fans are commanded off by the PCM when the vehicle speed exceeds 35mph.

You can force low speed operation at 185 degrees by turning on the AC. High speed operation with AC on is still 235 degrees.

Default C5 overheating

Mine is doing the exact same thing...I've been scratching my head for 3 days. I've tried bleeding the system both ways with no luck. Honestly, I don't think I'm doing it correctly. I've disconnected the bleeder hose at the front of the motor and let it spit out air but it only did that when hot. Wouldn't do it cold.
I'm going to pull of the radiator cover and clean it out, hopefully it's the problem. If that doesn't work, I'll replace the temp sensor. It's weird, I can let my car idle at 210 in the driveway, pull the cap and nothing flows out. I think I can actually pull the cap at 225 and nothing comes out until I get to 230 then it flows out like crazy.

Not trying to hijack, it just sounds like we have the same issue. Hopefully we can fix it soon!

When i let the car sit on the driveway with the ac on the temp doesent move from 210f. But then when i step on it for a while in the highway it starts climbing again and it does it faster when the ac is on. Let me know please if you fix the problem . Default C5 overheating

I found on another thread that a guy seemed to have the same problem. he replaced the o - ring gaskets on the bleeder tubes and said that fixed his problem. Look at the "1999 Overheating" threat here in the tech section
