Default Cam overview.

Hello:

I have a 98 C5 corvette coupe, M6, aside from a corsa catback and a blackwing intake car is almost stock, i purchased online a LS6 intake manifold to start the mods, and the guy who sold me the intake is also selling a CAM, for what he's told me the cam is a custom grind, 236/242; 610/620 lift and 114 LSA, i'm trying to read as much as i can, and i've searched the internet but only found one post about a similar cam and nobody said anything to give me an idea of how would this cam would behave, my C5 is mostly a weekend car, where i live there's no strip, so i want a very streetable setup, i was looking at the Streetsweeper HT for that so any advice or comments about how this cam performs or info on its usability on a stock cubes setup would be greatly appreciated, also, cam is cheap or at least i believe so??? (300 usd) so it's tempting obviously i know there are supporting mods required to use this cam (or any other) but i'm asking if this could be a good cam to build arround from.

Thanks

That's quite a bit of cam, especially for LS1 heads and especially if you don't have long tubes and especially if streetability is what you're after. I'd be looking more in the mid-high 220 range based on the context of your post, but then again cams are highly subjective. Some people can tolerate more than others. Either way, you want longtubes before you cam. They'll wake your car up with no consequences.

I would not install a used cam, many do. It's just not for me.

I'm getting my cam install in two weeks and the shop said that for a DD the 227/230 6xx/6xx 111+4 is what I would need. I looked up videos and I have to agree.

I drive my 99 with a cam almost exactly like that 3-4 days a week. I have an auto tho with a 3200 stall. Trust me, driving a big cam car is not a terrible thing as long as you have a REALLY good tune. Once I installed the cam the car would barely run and surged really hard anytime I tried to stop the car. After the tune, the car drives very smooth and I only notice a hint of the car surging once the torque converter locks up at 55 and only if I let off the throttle.

Your car being an M6 will behave slightly differently but it's truly all in the tune. Get a good tune and the car will drive quite well.

Keep in mind that kind of cam is all about trying to get as much horsepower out of a stock cube engine. If you want something that will still give power and be very easy to drive around then something smaller might be what you're wanting.
