Default C5 Corvette Frame Donor

Hey everyone,

New here...

I have a question regarding the corvette frame I see for sale on ebay and craigslist.

What are these frames used for? I like the idea of putting an older car on a corvette frame, suspension and driveline.

I can seem to find anyone doing this but like the idea of building something from ground up with the c5 package.

Help?

One possible use would be for a Factory 5 GTM Kit.

I thought it was a kit also but the gtm uses the parts but not the frame. The cars I see for sale are just the frame.

I am assuming there is a kit that is BODY only with the c5 frame

or...

Possible hotrod car that uses the body of an old car onto the c5 frame?

Someone must be buying these things because I see them often enough to intrigue me.

Ah, I thought that you may have been referring to the rolling chasis that is on the auction site right now. That would be perfect for the GTM

So you are referring to the frame:

and not the rolling chassis:

I know there were, or still are, some body kits for a '62 Vette and I think a '53 and '57 that would utilize the C5 frame, but also all the rolling chassis and interior. So not sure of a kit that is strictly just the frame. I could see someone trying to get the components, frame, chassis, etc. for these kits individually in an effort to try and avoid buying a complete donor car at one time and maybe saving some money. Maybe others have some information.

There could be a lot of frames for sale because of flood damage. A parts dealer would probably buy a lot of stuff from a broken apart food damaged car, but it is probably not worth it to buy the frame, since any body shop would declare a total loss before they need a complete frame.

So you have a lot of unsafe stuff left over nobody wants if you are a corvette dismantler , and a perfectly good frame left over from each car.

Back in the dune buggy days, people would grab something with that much potential and build a homemade hauler. I think the dune buggy days were about forty years ago, if I remember correctly, so no sale.

Just a guess.
