I have CREE high power RED LED lights in my car. I believe they are 30W. I have tinted (appear dark cherry up close and almost black at a distance) lenses and you can tell when my lights are on during the daytime. The brakes are almost blinding. With stock bulbs, you really couldn't tell running lights were on during the day.
Make sure you buy RED LED lights. They claim the red color helps the light project through the red lense.
I'll warn you in advance that you will likely get RF interference in the radio when applying the brake or turn signals. I'm looking at options to shield the antenna and / or light housings.
Not sure if the link below will show up or work. This is what I bought.

Do not reinstall the tail lights until you verify the bulbs are working. They seem to have a polarity to them. If the light doesn't work, pull out and rotate 180 degrees, then reinsert.
You will also get hyperflash if you don't have a hyperflash harness or use some sort of resistor.
