If you do a search on the web I remember seeing a sight related to this topic they sell the equipment to turn back digital and anolog odometers
The unit costs around 1500.00 which includes all software. I will look for it again and post the addy when I find it.
It's very easy...sadly. GM should have put a link in the BCM and double stored it...if you have a legitimate need to do it, I can help you out...if you're looking when buying, you can't tell, except for going through all paperwork. It sucks when you've got a low mileage car b/c people question it...
Indeed. I think all you have to do is take out the DIC and disconnect the 9V battery for 1 hour to erase the odometer.......bahahhaah. I know I know
The way I've found that a lot of people use is to put an interrupt switch between the cluster and VSS signal from the PCM. Very commonly I find this on Caddys, not too often on Vettes. Look for splices on a dark green wire going into the cluster. As well as some have tried to hide their work, I have found quite a few with the evidence of tampering. There are other ways to reset a digital cluster if you know how it works. Looking at the PCB you will be able to find the chip that stores the mileage and if you know which chip it is, and know the I/O arrangement you can find the reset pin which is usually grounded or +5VDC applied to reset the counter to zero. I won't go into any more detail to prevent use of the info in a bad way, but I can tell you that if you think the odometer's off in a car you're probably right. I had to inspect cars that came off lease, and a LOT of them had been tampered. Just use your best judgement and follow your gut feeling.
