My car has been loosing if I can say the memory with key fob ,I can re-learn it and later the car starts to lock and unlock on and off so sometimes I have to lock it in order to stop that weird acting ,the next day I can go to the car and it wont unlock or do anything ,is there something that I am doing wrong or some one had the same problem ,thanks in advance for any help.
Couple different things going on here. One is the Passive switch is either stuck or dirty causing the door to lock/unlock without pressing anything. Most clean the passive switch then turn it off and forget it. GM never could get that right and abandoned Passive on the C5 FOB's starting model year 2000.
The second thing is the losing sync to your car. This also is a common problem on the early year keys. Here is a thread that most likely is the cause of that symptom:
Without a powerful magnifying glass you most likely will not see the bad solder points. Many just reflow the solder on the circuit board and then re-sync the FOB to the car.
Just as an FYI the 1997 - 2000 FOB's are different frequency from the 2001 - 2004 FOB's which are generally much more reliable. One of the Forum vendors sells an upgrade kit for the early year cars but it is not inexpensive. The FOB's and the TPM's both send information to a device called an RFA. So to upgrade you need a new RFA, new FOB's and new TPM's. Much more reliable system but comes at a price.........
I did the soldering part and one of them does not work at all,the other one istill opens the car even if I have the passive turned off, is there somehting else that I can try ?
Thanks.
The passive switch is stuck engaged. You either have to fix that or purchase a FOB for model year 2000. GM did away with the passive switch starting in 2000. The one that does not work may still have some cold solder joints or it is bad and cannot be fixed.
If you are going to stay with the early year FOB system then I suggest that you look for FOBs from 2000.
