Default Stay away from Boomspeed.Com !!!!!!

Some months ago I signed up for a FREE offer from Boomspeed.Com for a 4mb website. I downloaded my pics and added a pic to my sig. Today I got an email stating that I had misused my site by linking it to the Corvette Forum, and now would have to pay $6.00/month to continue. First of all, the Boomspeed site only works about half the time and I wouldn't continue to use it even it was free. After a certain number of months they use this excuse to charge for their "FREE" service. Don't be suckered by this offer of a "FREE" website. In the end you'll have to redue it. Does the Forum have a place for us to store our pics? I remember some time ago it was being fixed or updated.

Most people don't realize that their ISP sometimes offer free webspace to host pictures and websites. I noticed we are both in CA but you use AOL - don't they have any type of free hosting? I use Pacific Bell DSL and have about 40 megs of stuff uploaded without any problems.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but free lunches on the internet are getting harder to find.

So, I suspect that either Boomspeed changed their Terms Of Service (TOS) as did many free providers, you never read the TOS (as they are usually utterly incomprehensible), or you actually didn't comply with either their orginal or their modified TOS or something in between. No offence intended.

I have no affiliation with Boomspeed but they do have a page which explains their position right now and it seems you are not the only person they are enforcing their TOS with: http://www.boomspeed.com/host/forums..._topic535.html

As the previous poster noted, most cable or DSL providers also do provide some web space. They are also a few free web space providers but you do have to read the TOS carefully. Most limit the size of images and place banners etc. Guess what, though? The few free providers that are left are still often unreliable and it's often hard to find someone to complain to about something that is free.
