Re: Can someone please explain Hardened Output Shaft.. (chuckster)
what about the shaft that goes from the torque tube to the differential? Or is this the output shaft..What is the difference? I am confused....
There is a transmission output shaft that's frequently referred to as an output shaft. The shaft in question, however, is inside the diff. Don't know if anyone makes a hardened transmission output shaft, but then I've only seen very few of them break.
If I want to add the Hardened shaft afterwards, can it be done without pulling the differential? Doesn't it just slide into the splined socket?
The diff has to come down and partially disassembled - 'bout a 20-30 min job (after it's down.) :(
