Default Low Oil Level?

I just got my oil changed at a dealership a little over a month ago and now the low level oil message comes up. The oil life meter says 72% so I know I shouldn't already need an oil change. I put about 2500 miles on it since that oil change but most have been highway driving. Do you think they didn't change the oil, because if they didn't adding up what I had left on oil life before ~28-30 and now have 72 it would be real low. Or do you think there is a short or loose wire that is causing this message to come up? All your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I looked at the dipstick and it looked about a quart low. I went to the dealer and talked to the main service guy and told him what had happened. He said that it was the oil ring, when the rpm's are over either 2000 or 2500 (can't remember which one he said) it burns oil. He said there is a new oil ring that will fix the problem. It's a warranty thing but it will take him 3 or 4 days to take out the engine or whatever he has to do to change it.

Has anybody heard about this before?

Chances are they never filled it up. My first oil change was similar to yours.
700 miles after the change, my low oil light came on.
I realized they only put 6 quarts instead of 6.5. It then burned/lost
half a quart on the indicator flagged it.

Since then (several changes later) I make sure I measure the level
before I leave the dealer and that I have the extra half quart.
Haven't had any significant oil consumption since.

Next oil change, advise your dealer of the 6.5 quart requirement and
see the dipstick before you leave.
Carefully monitor the level every 500miles and record it for your next change
just in case you do have excessive loss.
