Default Aftermarket Headunit w/ or w/o bose speaker/amp

It's a foregone conclusion for me that the factory head unit is coming out of my 2002 coupe, in favor of a double din navigation head unit (likely a Pioneer NEX8100).

However, I am not very interested in installing a separate amp or adding a sub. I am either going to leave the Bose amp and speakers in place and install an interface between the h/u and Bose amp OR I am going to bypass the Bose amp all together and install aftermarket speakers (most likely component sets) powered strait off the h/u.

Realizing there are still plenty of variables to consider (most notably: which speakers I use). Given the two possible configurations, which tends to offer the better results?

i can't really relate to this

why would you pull the OE deck if you're not interested in improving the sound?

a stand alone amp, separates and a sub are easy to run off an aftermarket deck and can sound great.

the only reason people usually keep the factory deck is for aesthetics and then an amp is ran off that. if you already are going aftermarket it's basically a no brainer to get some sort of amp and better speakers

a really solid amp like a JL 300/4v3 can be had refurb online for 350, smaller digital amps also exist if size matters more than SQ

you can get some of those small digital amps that literally fit in the palm of your hand

Because I am primarily after the features that are non-existant in the factory deck (bluetooth, navigation, backup camera, auxilary audio inputs, etc.). While sound quality is of course important, it is not my only concern.

ah, makes sense.

you could do deck power to aftermarket speakers, BUT a small digital amp will sound much better and not add very much to the cost along with being very easy to hide. really depends on how much better you want to improve the sound

Go over to the audio section in the forum and post this. Their are some very knowledgeable people who monitor that and will post some very good info. Markcz and Dennis have just about every answere you will need.

Not sure how I didn't realize there was an Audio forum. I'll repost over there.

I kept the factory head unit and have bluetooth, Ipod, Smartphone for navigation,... upgraded speakers to Kicker.

So if the 3.5"s in the doors are driven strait off the headunit, are the 6.5"s in the back driven directly as well? Can you also upgrade the tears and leave the Bose stuff in place?

Also, I've heard mention of Kickers a couple of times for the 3.5"s, is there a specific model of theirs that is special for this application, or can any 3.5" set work?

Is there any specific space constraint within the Bose speaker module that would limit which 3.5" speakers you can install into them?
