Default Needing Bcm

As the title says,I need a new bcm due too water damage.I would like to avoid paying the $1,500 gm is asking. Acdelco and Cardon make remanufactured ones for around $500.But I have read mixed fixes for using used ones.Needing too get the correct options/year.I have also been told by a gm master technition that only a new bcm can be used. Can anyone explain my options too me.Gm is telling me there is only one,so i couldn't get the wrong one if I tryed.I have been fighting this for 4 years now...It's getting really old.

Thanks,John

Don't let the "Master Whatever " work on your car.

People put in used and used rebuilt BCMs all the time. Price is going to be based on the year. I bought a rebuilt one for my 2001 to put in my spare part inventory and only paid about $150 at NAPA for it.

If the replacement BCM does not have all the RPOs codes activated for your car then they will need to be programmed. You can replace the BCM as a DIY in just a few minutes.

If you want to go for a DIY I can give you all the info.

If you lived close to me I would program the RPOs for you for free. It requires using a GM Tech 2 device.

Thankyou for the response. The Nappa in my town is asking $600 for a rebuild one by Cardone. Advance Is asking $650,Auto zone $550.I am having a hard time find a rebuild one for anything cheaper then that. They are also all saying the same thing as the dealer, there is only one to pick from 97-04.Can you see how I'm getting confused.Any suggestions?

Get the # off of it and look on ebay. I paid $225 for one there a few months ago, has to be programed with your options using a Tech II, no big deal. Mine worked perfect.

I can't offer any input since you never told us what year your car was. The pre 2001 ones are hard to get and command higher prices. My car is a 2001.

There were 2 or 3 different BCMs from 97-00.

Sorry,I have a 1999.The numbers say I need a 09381399.So as long as I match those,I can get one to work.As long as I get it reprogrammed.Even if it is used, not remanufactured right?

Used is fine, if its good. Remember you may not need to have it programmed for RPOs unless it does not have one you want. If it came from a Z06 it will not have the TPM sensors programmed in as an example.
