I definitely factor in the weight difference when people want to compare HP numbers with me, but my ultimate goal is to not get out run by any factory car (2015 z06) in a drag race.
Its all fun and games till a 500whp civic or golf or some other shitbox rolls up on you on the freeway and makes you look like a chump!
It is a losing game. If you got 40-50k to spend you can work up a full drivetrain build with a ysi or simmilar make 1000whp in a streetable car and then you will rarely find anyone faster, and your car will stay together a while.

I fully acknowledge that there will always be someone faster, and I know that any car can be made to be fast. Even if I achieve my goal, I am sure someone will come out with a 800 hp car. I just picked a goal that I believe is achievable. I am not sure how anyone could build a car without some kind of goal. And once again, I fully accept that there will be faster cars. It just wont be a (factory or bolt ons only) C5 z06, a C6 z06, and hopefully not a c7 zo6.
With the auto Trans you should put a stall converter in maybe around a 3,000 and put some gear in that rear I think 3.42 if I am correct bigger then 3.15 but smaller then 3.73 and a procharger will help you run with those higher horsepower cars best bang for the buck horsepower wise. And shaving a few pounds here and there will help also.
Horsepower cost's money. The higher the hp, the more fussy your
car will be on the street. The drivetrain of a C5 is good but it
won't hold up to high hp. If I were you I would talk to experts about your goals. I track my car, which means I drive like a little ol man
on the street. REMEMBER one 100 plus mile speeding ticket
means high insurance rates and a lot of court costs. If you have
built a lot of cars, you have nothing to prove on the street.
Good luck.
I just saw your comment about the gears. I believe my car has 2.73 gears right now.
Also I just emailed ECS to get a quote on my goal.
You would be suprised what gears could do for you. Either 3.42 for automatic or 3.90 for 6m.
I have a DiSC procharger unit about pushing closer to 480-500 rwhp with all supporting mods and 3.42 gears.
If you are in a race with anyone of those cars you first want to hook up.(tires). Why not just start with full bolt ons and gears. That should put you mid to high 11's if your concerned about $$$.
But if your going to go all out make sure you do it right the first time because it can get real expensive. I like when the boost really kicks in, the tq is crazy, plus you can change pullys for additional power.

I agree, your 2.73 diff gear will never suit your needs. I'm not positive but I believe going to 3.42's may require a different diff case. Regardless, ditch the "MPG 2.73's" and get the "Go Fast 3.42's" for some immediate satisfaction. A centri unit can add ~200rwhp with meth, I don't care what any NA setup can make they'll never make as much as a centri unit especially for the money. AND, you'll make the power with a cam more friendly to your auto tranny and daily driving. In the end the power is less expensive with a centri, BUT extra power will require drivetrain upgrades at some point whether powered by bigger cube NA power, NOS, turbo, supercharger or flux capacitor. Going faster by the jump in power you want will require supporting mods at some point. That is all fact and no way around it so start saving.
