My original GY with 26k have 6/32 out back and 7/32 in front. How low do I go before buying Nitto's.
Yah I know, the day I drove it off the lot. [IMG][/IMG]
Re: Tire tread...when do you change? (Old Rotor Head)
I ran my original Goodyears down to the treadwear indicators with no problems except for wet traction. But they never had that anyway, so it was kinda hard to know for sure.

At this point the EMTs are hard as a rock and do not do well in rain or racing.............................time to replace when they look like:
You got a lot of life remaining in them unless they are cracking or deforming :yesnod:
Re: Tire tread...when do you change? (Old Rotor Head)
This past Feb I had a local GY dealer measure my tread depth to see when I'd be needing new tires they came in at 5/32 with 12K miles. I'm getting ready to turn 18K miles and it doesn't look like they have worn any more since then. I'll go have the GY man take another measurement. I'm told the rubber compound where I'm at right now gets very hard and the tires sort of go into a "no wear" mode for a while. They do feel a little more greasy but I was chalking that up to the Z06 sway bars which allows me to drive a little more aggressively.
It's a daily driver but will plan on avoiding rain just to be safe.
I've read something to the effect, "Two thirds of your tread wear occurs in one third the miles." Possibly someone experience. More important, with wide tires, you are very likely to hydroplane when the tread is still barely legal. If you're there, don't go out in any downpours.

GY runflats are crap, replace them now! Had an accident because of mine. I had to get new GY's, because of insurance reasons, but want to switch them out for another brand ASAP.
Re: Tire tread...when do you change? (Old Rotor Head)
Check you rear tires in the centers. Mine wore out in the centers while the outer edges were fine. At 4/32" in the centers I was driving very very carefully in the wet so I bought new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs and never looked back. :seeya

Thanks guys. After thinking about going off Bear Mountain I ordered new Nitto's and Z06 wheels today. Not worth tearing up the Vette worrying about a few ?/32's. :smash:
