Default Recommended performance mods for newbies

Saw this at a website, thought it may be informative:

OK< You just got a New C5, What should you do first? Assuming it's still Stock Here's a Quick Guide of what to buy and do first:

Replace the Intake System, A new Air Filter is not enough, Your looking at maybe 20-25 HP improvement here alone with Halltech TRIC, MTI Ram Air?
Consider a GMS MAF, at a minimum this is worth 6 HP
And Don't forget a Ported Throttle Body, Maybe another 5-6 HP
You Might as well get rid of that cheap looking air bridge, How about a Vortex Power Duct or a Halltech Cobra (MAG)
Replace your Stock Exhaust, Even if it's a Z06. The Stock Exhaust looks and Sounds bad, and even though the improvement is maybe 8-12 HP at best it's still worth the effort for the Sounds and Looks

OK now for the other little stuff:
Plugs and Wires: 2-3 HP
Throttle Body Bypass: 2-3 HP
Thermostat and Fan Controller: 5HP?
Temp Control Module: Possible 5 HP
PCM Programming or The PROgram: 15-35HP, WOW!
Bigger Radiator, Keep that HP Cool
The Big Stuff:

HEADS, Valve Springs, Titanium Retainers, Good for 30-25 RWHP
Add a Matched Cam to the Heads: Another 12-15 or 45-50 HP total
Consider the Crane 1.8 Rockers good for 12-14 HP more on top of that
Headers (long Tube or really good shorties): 12 HP if your Lucky
Z06 New Larger LS6 Intake Manifold, 20 RWHP? Could be!
BBK 80mm Throttle Body
Other things to Consider:

Nitrous: 150-250 HP, Now were talking
Supercharger: Stage I: 100-150 HP, Stage 2 150-250 HP, YEAH!
383 Stroker Package: 100 HP, If you got the time and Money
Twin Turbo: 150-300 HP, Only for the Deep Pocketed
What Good is Power if you can't Handle it?

Hotchkis Sway Bars, That C5 has got way to much Body Roll
Lower it, It's easy and well worth it
Brake Pads, The Stock ones Suck!
Rotors, Your Stock ones are going to Warp soon anyway
Shocks, Bilstien Sports If your Poor, HAL Adjustable if you can afford them, JRZ's if you want to race!
Poly Bushings, Get rid of that slop in the stock suspension
Wider Wheels and NON Run-Flats, Some g-Force 265 & 295x35x18s
What good is All that New Power and Handling without some Style?

Add some Z06 Intake Screens or maybe Brake Cooling Ducts
A Rear GM Performance Spoiler, Not only does it look cool, It WORKS
A Specter Werks GTR Aero Body
A BPP Heat Extractor Hood Looks Incredible.
Carbon Fiber Fuel Rail Covers
Custom Decals and Emblems
The Ever Popular Exhaust Plate
PIAA Lights or BPP Non-Popup Headlight Modules
Ripper Shifter and MOMO Shift ****
Logo Floor Mats
Chrome Wheels

Well, performance-wise, it would depend on how much you value your warranty... The C5 has plenty of performance for me as it is. Just my .02

Youre right on, Steve. However you went too conservative on the headers. I would say 20-25 would be more realistic on the longtubes.

Like someone else mentioned, it all depends on if you want to lose your engine warranty. I was told that even something as simple as an air intake could jeopardize the warranty much less changing out headers/cams/etc. I guess a lot of people can afford to not have a warranty, not me. Just my .02 worth.

Sorry, have to call :bs on most of this (the website, not your post). The only realistic gainer on here is the intake and PCM tuning (in the first 2 paragraphs, and even beyond that the #'s are awfully generous).

I've been told that a GMS MAF and ported throttle body are a waste of time unless you have a new heads and cam or atleast a new cam. And if you have a new C5 how would new plugs and wires give you 3 HP gain? Whats the deal?

I'm with JWSchmidt3. Your high end estimates add up to 100 horsepower before touching the heads and cam! If only it were so easy.

Save $8,500.00 and get the Lingenfelter mangacharger good for mid 11 second time slips, 480 ponies and gobs of torque, Major car show WOW Effect, Warranty and one of the few major mods which will probably increase the value of your car as opposed to decreasing in value as most high performance mods will do. Owe did i mention total 100% reliability and street manners until you MASH IT! :smash:

Nice post, but it seems to me that whoever made that was selling things. If you add it up, and pick one of the power adders youll come up with 400-700 hp increase, wow, thats around 1000hp
