Gentlemen,
My C5 had some water come up through the floor and got the body control module wet, and the adjacent fuse panel. After pulling the circuit board of the BCM and cleaning it everything was fine for about a week. Then one day the battery was dead. I'm thinking a relay is giving me a short to ground. How do I know which direction they plug into the panel?
Thank you for the link Patches. My concern however was orientation, but GM was sneaky and one could only go back in one way, and I think I got lucky with the other. I've replaced the bottom 2 where I know they were under the water line, and it has been 3 hours and I can still start the car. Yesterday it wouldn't start after 1 hour with my wife at the gym, so I think I may have found it.
Now my concern is with the PCM. I'm thinking about pulling to inspect the plug. I'm semi retired and have the time, and I do NOT want to total my car.
The relays do not just go in one way. They can be rotated 180 degrees and go in. Since the pin layout is a rectangle they cannot be installed incorrectly. The coil pins and contact pins are diagonal from each other so they can work either way the relay is installed.
If you need any help with reading the schematics I would be glad to help. Better to discuss over the phone. GM has different ways of identifying the Connector numbers based on whether you are using the hardcopy or e-versions.
The fuse panel has a bunch of small connection wires running around inside to connect the fuses & relays to the connector plugs on the back. There may be corrosion inside and you may need to get a used panel and swap it out to make the car reliable again.
