Default 2001 Coupe...small oil leak?

Original owner, 2001 Coupe, 6sp, 29K miles. I'm now noticing small oil
leak on garage floor, forward of oil filter so its not the filter. Oil pan
shows some film of oiliness, likely from air blowy. I don't have a lift so
I haven't looked thoroughly. Any thoughts about this? I was gong to jack
the front and see if oil pan bolts are snug, haven't done so yet.

Thanks very much for any comments....Bob

Default oil leak

I purchased a 2001 coupe in may of 2014 and I had a oil leak similar to the one you have. I had one of the lower oil pan bolt that had broken, but not completely in two pieces thus it looked fine until I put a wrench on it. I was leaking and blowing back towards the oil filter. It was a small leak like you are describing also. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the feedback. Sure sounds similar to where the oil wetness appears on my car. When you say the bolt was partially broken, could you elaborate. Reason i'm asking is I'd sure like to avoid having to drill a broken piece out. My thought was to simply try to snug the lower pan bolts. What do you think?

Default oil leak

The bolt was broken at a angle, just a little point was holding. I was able to get the bolt to unscrew by putting pressure upward on the broken piece while unscrewing it. I found the broken bolt when I tried checking all the lower bolts. It is not a bad job to remove the lower pan if you have to.

Thanks for the quick reply, really appreciate. Ok, I understand. From my limited view of the pan(looking sideways on my knees) I don't see anything that looks unusual. That said, doesn't mean one, or some are nit properly tightened. As you say, worst case would be to replace the lower gasket. I do hope this is the leak source. I'm going to replace the front pads very soon, when I have car jacked I'll check the pan bolts and view where leak might be coming from.

Thanks again, this has been very helpful...Bob
