After the torque converter and gear change this last May, I got tired of waiting for my reprogram from Steve Cole and had Ed Wright make the changes to my PCM. It has been nice having the car but kinda miss the way the powerloader made the car shift and the transmission react time.
Anyway, I called TTS today and they are telling me that the reprogram will be done the end of this week. (Where have we heard that before?) So what I would like to do is instead of overwriting the current Ed Wright programming, I would like to buy another PCM and load the Powerloader II program on it so I would have both. Has anyone done this before and what is involved with getting the program installed? Does a dealer have to program the VIN number or anything? Just wondering if this is possible and how much would a new PCM cost?
I had the same idea but the cost was not worth it to me. I can not find my notes, I think the PCM was $300 with a core charge of $300, if you did not turn in your old PCM. Total $600, I could not find a used PCM (cheap) any place. One reason I want the Powerloader is that you will always have the program in that little box.
Was afraid of that. So guess once the powerloader does finally show up and I do load it the Ed Wright programming will be gone forever. Does that sound about right?

Actually, I think Ed locked your PCM, so I am not sure you'll be able to overwrite it.

Re: Can I buy another PCM? (C5Rated)
As i am constantly fruckin with my pcm i bought a second one as a backup in case mine craps out as i didn't want any down time. Best deal around for new pcm is through valve god (i don't have a # or web address but should be easy to find here) and pcm from them for my 98 cost me around 200.00 or so. If you get a brand new pcm like i did you would have to have a dealer flash it while installed in your car to stock and dealer would have to put your VIN #, etc.
Its a good idea and i also can tell you from direct experience, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REFLASH any programs or parameters over ED WRIGHTS, or you will have MAJOR HEADACHES. I think your idea of keeping two seperate excellent programs on 2 pcms is a great idea!
