Is it worth it? How weak are the stock main shafts?
Is the main shaft the weak link in our t56?
Going on a 383 ls1 w/ nitrous
Can they can be broke...yes. It's a subjective question. It all depends on driving style, type of racing, power adder, method of introduction of power adder, tire choice...etc..etc.
It's always smart to build the "hard to get to" parts as strong as possible and let the "easy to replace" items be a fusible link....if you will.
If you decide to do it, call and talk to Bubba @ G-force and if it's in the budget, opt for the 31 spline and while it's apart do the pinion.
I spoke with them and they said they have the 27 spline in stock but the 30 is not available right now. I plan on doing the differential after the transmission is back together.
I understand it's difficult to upgrade once put together but what material is the oem main shaft? I'm upgrading to a part with identical characteristics but made from 9310 rather than what material?
Nobody seems to be able to tell me the oem main shaft material.

I broke a G Force 9310 27 spline shaft also... Honestly, I doubt its THAT much stronger then a regular T56 shaft. If anything, do the 07' C6Z 30 spline shaft upgrade, but that requires machining the pinion to receive it...
That being said, a buddy of mine just broke a stock 07 C6Z mainshaft a couple days ago on drag radials on a 1-2 shift at 590 rwhp.
I think if its gonna break, any of them are gonna break.
