For anyone who was going to run a RollerMaster double chain on with a ASP pulley get ready for some machine work :( :( The ASP pulley won't clear the oil pump after you install the 3mm spacers required with the timing chain kit! After we installed the asp pulley the new motor was completely locked down :( :( We ended up pulling the pulley back off & now I have to get it machined down at Sunset Racecraft. So maybe the C5R chain is still the best option!??>!?!

Re: ASP Pulley + RollerMaster Chain = NO GO!! (Jason 98 TA)
Jason, Thanks for the heads up... are you going to contact ASP and let them know? Seems this may interest them considering many opt for ASP when "already in there" upgrading heads and/or cam...
Re: ASP Pulley + RollerMaster Chain = NO GO!! (Jason 98 TA)
What machining exactly needs to be done to get the pulley to clear? I was thinking of going with this setup and would like to get the machine work done ahead of time.

Damn. I have an ASP pulley sitting at home, and a rollmaster dual chain on it's way from Austrailia!
What exactly need to be machined? The pulley itself? Is it because the diameter is too large, or because the pulley is too thick (extending towards the back of the car)? I can't really picture what the problem is.
Re: ASP Pulley + RollerMaster Chain = NO GO!! (Patches)
You wont need any cadd pics, just look at where the pulley goes into the seal & you'll understand what I'm talking about :) Its really obvious when you have it all infront of you, its just hard to describe :(
Re: ASP Pulley + RollerMaster Chain = NO GO!! (Jason 98 TA)
Sorry you had the problem, but glad your sharing the info.
I've never worked on a c5 engine, so I don't know exactly where the oil pump will make contact. I'm sure a lot of us could use help on this. Here's a link showing installed pump that might help us understand where it rubs. http://ls1.fbody.com/car/mods/oilpump/install.html
Re: ASP Pulley + RollerMaster Chain = NO GO!! (Jason 98 TA)
No problem with my installation.
I have had the RollMaster (Nice!) with an ASP pulley for several months with no issues. I just replaced the pulley last night (unrelated - the pulley failed - steel ring slipping on aluminum hub) but there was NO sign of an interference problem.
As part of my initial pulley failure investigation, I measured the insertion depth compared to stock and it was within ~.5mm.
I am not sure how to account for the differences in out observations.
Is the sealing surface contacting the pump body, or is the back of the pulley contacting the pump rotor? What is the distance from the end of the crankshaft to the bolt contact surface of the pulley?
Re: ASP Pulley + RollerMaster Chain = NO GO!! (C5 Tweaker)
Sounds like there was an installation discrepancy in one of the steups here.
C5 Tweaker - Thanks for your input. I may just key the pulley before it goes on and hold off on the machining until an initial fitting is done at install.

Godspeed, you of all people should know better. If the challenges faced by mods stopped us we wouldn't do any. Get my drift. This is meant to be slightly light hearted.
