Default hatch sounds violent when openning

When I hit the hatch button it sounds pretty violent when opening, like its being sprung up way to hard. Also kind of have to close it really hard or you end up going and pressing down on each corner to get it to latch. Any one had any similar experiences?

Same thing with my 98, I open the door before closing the hatch to relieve pressure.

They all do that. You need to open the door or the cabin pressure will make it hard to close. And yes, the opening mechanism is pretty loud.

Opening the door solved the closing issue but it still sounds terrible when I unlatch from inside.

Same here - makes a strange noise when opening as it is releasing the pressure inside the car. As far a closing the hatch, since the car is so tight the only way to close it is to have a door or window open. Otherwise you will be shuffling around and pressing on both sides to get it to close. One of the C5 nuances.

It definitely makes a noise, but I wouldn't call it violent. Unless it's being held in place to tightly, there is an adjustment in each corner (at least the z has it) that you can turn the *****. They might be too high which would cause the latch to hold too tightly which might account for the greater than normal sound when opening the hatch.

That's exactly what it sounds like. I will give it a once over in the morning. Thanks!
