Upgrading these crap low beam bulbs. I put in sylvania ultras not long ago and theyre just as crappy as stock. Ive read alot of old posts that the Toshiba HIR bulbs are good but when I search for them all I find is Phillips HIR bulbs.. the 9012's. Is it the same thing?
I just put the 9012 bulbs from auto zone in my low beams sockets. They were $24.99 each and they were a improvement over stock. I had to raise the aim up on my car and that also helped. The top tab has to be trimmed to fit.

So put in the 9012 for low beam and just trim it to fit? Is there a write up pics to show to to trim?
Thank you kindly. I am thinking about doing the hi/lo conversion. Do u guys recommend doing this or do u thing the hir low beam bulbs should be sufficient lighting?
I have been thinking of changing lights for a while also, I was thinking of trying Sylvania Ultra or hid but didn't want to deal with ballast. I will skip Ultras after bwill30z said they weren't any better than stock. I will give Philips hir a try! CactusCat thanks for write up I saved it to my corvette folder.

I was very disappointed with the Sylvania Ultras. They have more of a white tint than stock but aren't any brighter at all. Not nearly enough light for my poor vision.

The HIR low beam bulbs work fine for night time driving. I didn't like the idea of using a smaller diameter bulb fixture in the low beam housing. I also added the HI-4 harness that lights all four bulbs on high beam, which really puts out a lot of light. Candlepower has a sale on now, $73.00 for a set of 4 bulbs.

They really can't be brighter and legally be sold for road use. The lumen value of all the Sylvania 9006 bulbs is identical (1,000). The only differences are the color temperature and lifespan. Philips does make a "Vision" bulb which has 1095 lumens, I doubt it's 30% better like they claim.
Picked up the Phillips 9012 bulbs today, modified them and put them in. I havent got a chance to drive the car yet but my questionnis did I get the right bulb because after installing them I noticed on the pack that these say 9012 LL and B1 underneath that. All the posts ive read on here were talking about HIR 2's. And instead of B1 i read that theres a C1. So did I get the wrong bulb? These do not say HIR2 anywhere on the pack and according to autozones website they are 1850 lumens.

Philips HIR2 9012 LongerLife Headlight Bulb
Part # 9012LLB1
I bought mine through Amazon, but that looks like the same packaging. Actually, I put 9011's (they're a little brighter than 9012's) in all 4 and wired a relay to do the "4 on" modification. I'm pretty satisfied with the resulting lighting. Do check your aiming after installation, these are considerably brighter than stock. Some modification is required but it's very simple, just compare the new 9012 or 9011 to the bulb you remove and modify as necessary; or do a Google search there are a number of write-ups that explain how to modify.
