Hard to describe topic
Back on topic though (thought I'd share some background info), she is getting a cold air box (as am I. Probably Vortech) and an exhaust (as am I, just not as soon). What kind of power is she going to get and how bad am I going to lose? I know that those should put about another 20 or so to the wheels on her, but what will it do for me? I figure about 10 to the wheels with the intake and then maybe 5 with the exhaust. So what is it going to take for me to beat her or at least run even? She is also getting a 75 shot (can't do that) but I just want to run with/beat her all motor. Is a hypertech worth it on mine? Oh yeah, she is getting one of those also so she can beef up the tranny shifts and stuff. Just exactly what is it going to take to beat her/run with her once she gets this stuff done? I don't know where this thread should go so move it where yall want to. I just want to defend the Corvette name as best I can. Does having the top up or down affect performance? The top was back the first race and up on the second. It seems odd to me that GM would let a camaro beat a vette with such simple bolt ons. Please help me. Dad doesn't maind putting stuff on there as long as it doesn't void the warranty (he wants the cold air and exhuast).
She is getting the MTI airbox (I think just the new lid). And she is getting a Borla cat-back. I'll be getting the Vortech and the Stingers (Vortech ASAP). What else would I need to ensure a victory?

The Vette does have a weight advantage, but to ensure an easy victory I'd say exhaust, headers and an intake should give you a nice advantage. The Hypertech in my opinion is a waste of money, especially for a 6 speed. At least with an auto, you can firm up the shifts. Other then that, get someone to tune it with the LS1 edit.
You could always take the route of forced induction, ATI, LPE, Vortech...then there will be no question which is faster. :D
Also, the RWHP is not the same. The 'Vette's independent rear suspension eats 5-10 more RWHP than the Z28 solid axle-bringing them that much more closer.
By you weighing down your 'vette, and the Z coming from the factory with possible better tolerances-it might not help you any.
Race at the track for consitency with your car empty of junk, and a quarter tank of gas (each gallon weighs 7lbs+/- and the C5 can hold 18 gallons-do the math)
I knew that they were similar in hp. Maybe a 5-10rwhp difference. I knew the vette would weigh a little less. I've always respected any LS1. Be it Camaro or Trans Am. It's just that I respect them even more than I did before. I've raced a 98 6 spd with an airbox before and won by about two cars. I would love to do forced induction but dad won't do anything that will void the warranty. What does the LS1 edit do? Where can i get one? So headers, intake, and exhaust and I should be doing pretty good. Those should put me into the 12's, right? Assuming I can get a good launch, not miss a shift, and take all of the crap out of it. The tank was full both times we raced. It's amazing what a few hundred pounds will do.
Quick question. Which is faster stock for stock? Z28/SS or TA/Ram Air? Both 6 speed.
