Transmission frustration
My low mileage Mn6 C5 had the 2nd gear synchro go out. $1500 quote to repair, which is awful. Plus, I don't know what else I would even need to replace while the trans is torn apart. Would it be better to just replace whatever it needs, or buy an RPM trans and swap it? How much would that cost? Can't decide what would be best and cost friendly

None of it is cost-friendly... It more a matter of your expected end result. An RPM transmission would be great if you have the $$$ and are pushing a bunch of power. A cost-conscious rebuild of your current transmission would be sensible for a fairly stock motor in a cruiser or daily driver. You should consider a decent clutch assembly/slave cylinder replacement and checking the torque tube/driveshaft) while you have it all apart.
