Steering rack clunk
Hey guys, haven't spent much time on the C5 section here, but I am working on my Aunt's 01 and hoping for some of that great Corvetteforum experience.
Seems she has a clunking coming from the steering rack. I haven't driven it since it started doing this, but I had a chance to look at it and feel it after my cousin drove it this evening.
Turning the wheel, with the motor running or not, is producing a knock that seems to be coming from the rack where the shaft meets it. It can be felt in the steering wheel. My first thought is maybe the rack is loose and the torque is causing it to shift.
The car was in the shop about a year ago for a/c work and to have the crank pulley put in place and pinned, so I know the rack has been off.
I wasn't able to play with it for long as it was getting dark and haven't turned up much searching through here, but I am hoping someone has had something similar. Thanks

Get the front wheels up in the air and have a buddy shake the wheels and turn the steering lock to lock while you watch from below. Shouldn't take long to find where the sound is coming from. Double check the u joint where the column attaches to the rack. Good luck, Rod
